Lionel Model Trains
From their introduction in the early 1900s to the current day, Lionel model trains have evolved and made continuous improvements to keep up with the times. Though keeping true to its primitive design consisting of working lights, sounds and even smoke, these trains continue to improve with the progression of the real trains that we see today. Announcements of departures and arrivals can be heard, and they include identification of the train that is being operated. And now the smoke will billow from the exhaust in cadence with the revolutions of the train’s wheels! Although Lionel has always been well known for its pretty good representation of authentic trains, today’s model trains are even more realistically made. Regardless of what model dimension you want, such as Traditional or Standard O, Lionel manufactures it. The potentialities to the realism of your train set are illimitable, thanks to the continual innovations in model train technology.
Lionel model trains can be relished by everyone, but if you are thinking about purchasing one for your child, keep in mind that they may be too young to run it by themselves. Operation by children younger than five years of age is not recommended, and children older than five should always have constant adult guidance when they are operating a train. Learning about and beginning a collection of model trains at a young age can develop into a treasured hobby that your children can enjoy throughout their lives. With all of the available options for assembling and expanding a train set with cutting edge features and sophisticated details, a model train enthusiast could work at it for years and not be done. There are new editions of trains, models and new options being produced all the time for your pleasure.
Lionel model trains are some of the finest available, whether you are searching for your inaugural for your young child, or you are a model train aficionado, Lionel model trains should be your first choice.
Fun Facts For Rubber Stamping Enthusiasts
Rubber Stamps have an interesting history for those who don’t know that they might have been inspired by dentures. Yes, it’s true: dental dentures! But first, some background, as Charles Goodyear had to discover the secret behind vulcanization. This is the process of “curing” rubber so that it can be molded as needed. Before Mr. Goodyear’s discovery, rubber — in its natural state — was not at all easy to work with.It is sticky and does not stay set in any one particular shape. But with vulcanization, rubber, once cooled, would preserve the shape in which it had been molded.
Unhappily, poor Mr. Goodyear was not able to benefit financially from his invention, though he was publicly recognized by the Emperor of France, Napoleon himself, and prestigiously decorated with many honors. His invention, however, would go on to find many applications that would soon change the world. One of these was dentures. Rubber was found to be a great replacement material for the dentures of the day, which were often made of metal or even wood.Dentists had long been making their own dentures, and one of these many dentists had a curious nephew that realized the potential of rubber and eventually wound up manufacturing rubber stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. This nephew, a Mr. James Woodruff, is often credited with having invented the rubber stamp we recognize today. But there are, actually, many different versions for how rubber stamps came to be, depending on exactly how a rubber stamp is defined, with one even stretching all the way back to the ancient Mayans! This version just presented is among the most widely accepted accounts for the rubber devices which we today would most immediately recognize as being a rubber stamp.
Another generally popular and widely acknowledged account of the invention the rubber stamp involves a Mr. L.F. Witherell, who went so far as to compose a document titled “How I Came to Discover the Rubber Stamp,” in which he claimed to have been inspired during work as a foreman at a wooden pump manufacturing facility. According to Mr. Witherell, there was a problem one day with the paint that was used on the pumps. The paint would run and create obscuring blotches over necessary information. Mr. Witherell hit on the idea of creating stencils out of some thin sheets of rubber packing laying around. But while creating the stencil, he thought further and decided to simply create thick letters out of the rubber, then glue them to a backing of wood, with which he could make repeated impressions of the necessary marks.
The one account considered least plausible concerns a Mr. Henry C. Leland, who was even championed at the time by none other than the “Stamp Trade News,” published by a manufacturer of rubber stamps. But no mater its origins, there is no doubt that the rubber stamp itself has left quite an enduring impression on our lives.
Building The Model Trains Layout I Always Wanted
I remember once when I was young my father took me to a model railway exhibition and I could not believe my eyes as I looked at a huge world of scale model trains in miniature.
I stood there in awe of the scene I saw before me of a world in miniature and I lost count of all the trains running this way and that along the tracks and appearing from tunnels and disappearing into the mountain landscape again.
Some of the trains were very long made up of dozens of coal trucks or freight cars and lots of shorter trains with passenger carriages full of people
stopping at the stations and then moving on.
The scenery was amazing as well with mountains and cable cars and there were rivers with bridges over them and hills and valleys it was like looking down on the world from a plane in the sky.
The lasting memories I have of that display have left me with a determination that I might one day build a realistic model train layout as mesmerizing for any small child to see so they would remember it in later years.
When I was younger it would have been difficult to find the time but now I can do the work of producing something that will be as impressive as the miniature world of trains and people and mountains I saw that day.
Since I was young I have had this hope that one day I will be able to do this and it is worth putting in the time and effort the project requires and I expect to be working on this for a long time but it will be a pleasure.
I am not an artist so some of this work will be difficult to make it all look real but since I have time on my hands I can learn and develop new skills with the help of model train layout guides I have purchased and when I retire I will have even more time to work on this project.
We are very impressionable when young and the memory of that model train exhibition layout never went away even after all these years so I am sure that building and developing a realistic model train layout is something that will be my hobby for years to come.

Quick Tips for Your Scrapbooking Journaling
What do you know about scrapbooking journaling?Basically, this is when you document your memories in words on your scrapbook page layouts in more than just a phrase, quote or title. These words may explain the photo or memento on the page or may just be used to express your feelings about it.Including scrapbooking journaling isn’t the same as using phrases or basic titles, and knowing how it is different will help you design an attractive and effective page as well.
First, remember that because scrapbooking journaling involves a lot of words, you’ll want to use an easy to read font.Often phrases, sayings, titles and quotes that are in scrapbooks use a fancy font often made with cricut design studio software. Because they are usually just a word or two, this is okay.Especially when you are including an entire paragraph or even more, you need to use something that is easy to read. Typically the contrast between a fancy font for your title and a simpler block font for your scrapbooking journaling is perfectly acceptable and may even add more visual interest to your page.
Next, you should be careful about the amount of space you will need for scrapbooking journaling, and also about how many additional page elements you plan to include on your layout. It’s easy to underestimate the space you’ll need for your wording and just how busy they make the page seem. It’s typically a good idea to write out your scrapbooking journaling on a scrap piece of paper and put this on your scrapbook paper without adhering it so you can make sure of the room needed. You can then also add or remove other embellishments if everything seems a bit busy around the journaling itself. If you do this with your scrapbooking journaling you can also make adjustments to how many words you use, how large or small you make your font, and so on.You may even recognize that it is out of place and that you need to edit your journaling or remove it all together. Graduation scrapbook: Tips for a High School Scrapbook Album
Does it seem like only yesterday that your child started kindergarten? Now he’s graduating from high school and will soon start college in the fall. It’s important to document your child’s high school years in a special graduation scrapbook.
You may already have a school scrapbooking album for your child, but high school graduation memories can fill an entire scrapbook. Dedicate one album for this special occasion. It doesn’t need to be a large album, but one that can accommodate professional portraits might be important if you plan to include the sittings for senior pictures.
The summer before your child senior year of high school, he will usually sit for senior portraits. Those special pictures should have a page in a graduation album.
There’s so much to include in a graduation scrapbook. Reserve one copy of your child’s graduation announcement and showcase it on a page. Following that page, include cards and letters from family and friends, especially ones with graduation advice. You might even include a letter from you with a personal message to the graduate. Write your hopes and dreams for their future along with advice you wish you would have been given on graduation day.
If your child is receiving a special award or honor at the graduation ceremony, be sure to design a page to highlight this accomplishment. Once the graduation is over, either include the original certificate in the album or make a copy.
Is your child giving a speech at the graduation ceremony? Take some pictures of your child preparing and practicing for the speech. Save his notes, including drafts, and use them on a page layout.
Did your local newspaper cover the graduation ceremony? Make copies of these articles for the scrapbook. Newspaper fades quickly. So you want to make photocopies. If you placed in a congratulations announcement in the paper, include this as well.
Graduation is full of photo opportunities. Think about the photos you want in your child’s graduation scrapbook, and make a list before the celebration starts. Pictures of the ceremony are important, but so are photos of your child with his friends, family and teachers.
Include high school mementoes in the scrapbook album. One page layout should show the graduation ceremony program. Scrapbook two copies on the page showing both the cover and the inside as much as possible.
Candid shots are a fun way to document graduation parties. Send a camera with your child when he attends graduation celebrations. Plan to exchange photographs with your child’s friends as well. That way you’ll have plenty of candid photos to choose from for your graduation album.
You should definitely include a copy of your child’s final report card or transcript. A nice complement to the scrapbooking page would be a copy of the college acceptance letter he received from the college he plans to attend.
For the final page of the graduation scrapbook, create a special page layout highlighting a photograph of your child leaving for college. You could even place a picture of your child on his first day of kindergarten next to a graduation photograph.
A graduation scrapbook will become a family heirloom. You don’t need to make it complicated. The most important part of a graduation scrapbook is to preserve and document your graduate’s special day.
Quilting Fabrics: you won’t have to spend a fortune to make it perfect
Now that you’ve initiated quilting, you’ll want to find the correct quilting fabrics to have all your tasks appear great. There are a number of places to purchase the fabric you are after, and you won’t have to lay out a lot to create your personal bed quilts. These are a couple of the best places to search for fabric, as well as online resources that may facilitate you to become improved at your new hobby.
First, you’ll need to know the simple way to select the quilting fabrics that you want. Make sure that the fabric is color safe, so the color will not spread when you wash the quilt. If you’re not really sure if the fabric is color safe, you should wash it before you begin to stitch with it; be sure to put it in the washing machine on it’s own, so that if it does streak, it will not wreck the rest of your clothes. It is also a brilliant idea to be sure that quilting fabrics have a thread that is tight enough, so that your blanket will last for years .
If the fabric is not threaded tightly enough, it will be simpler for your blanket to rip or tear. Although you may need to try new fabrics for your log cabin quilts each once in a while, you will not be in a position to go incorrect if you use one hundred percent cotton; if you’re a beginner when it comes to selecting quilting fabrics, it’s best to stay with cotton until you are way more familiar with the quilting process.
If you’re using quilting fabrics that don’t have a design, it’s important to make sure that you cut your parts the same in order that when you put the pieces of your quilt together, everything will fit correctly . The backing material is also crucial when it comes to quilting fabrics. After you have all the material cut out properly, you will have to make sure that the backing material is around the same weight and color as the apex of the quilt so that you can sew thru the entire quilt evenly without any rips or bumps.
You can find quilting fabrics at your local craft or fabric shop, so be certain to check stores like Pastime Lobby, Anna’s Linens, and Michael’s to get the material you want at a amazing price. You could even be capable of finding the materials you want to make your new quilt at stores like Wal-Mart. Crib quilts are available at the store as well , so you may find new design concepts while you are buying fabric. Remember to pay special attention to patterns for more design inspiration, and check out sites like shopping.com and amazon.com for discounts on fabric that you will not need to pass up.
Invest In Your Own RC Tank And Destroy Everything In Your Path
Have you ever imagined yourself driving a tank? Have you ever dreamed of traversing the rough terrain and taking on the enemy? You probably won’t be able to buy an actual tank, but luckily there is another option. You can purchase a radio controlled tank!
There are many different vehicles to choose from, Airsoft RC Tanks, humvees, APCs,(armored Personnel Carriers,) to amphibious vehicles that will actually not only float in water, but are powered by water jet motors that work. Some of these vehicles have live firing capabilities. What more could you ask for?
There are also many different sizes which you can select among. There are huge Remote Controlled Tanks which while not really close to the size of the real thing, are considerably large and capable of breaking a few toes. To give you a general idea, some weigh about fifty pounds! You can get smaller ones, but the choice is really up to you.
These tanks are rich in features. They are very responsive to their radio controls, meaning that you can control the vehicle and the different turrets. You will even be able to fire BB’s or paint balls depending on what model you get and how you modify it.
With so many to choose from, where do you start? This is going to be a big investment. Many will spend hundreds, and even thousands of dollars on this exciting hobby. Candle Making Wax – Do You Know Which One to Use?
Beginners to the art and craft of candle making are often confused (at least at first) by the many types of candle making wax available today. Here’s a quick run down on the different types of candle making wax on the market.
Paraffin Candle Wax
Paraffin is the workhorse of waxes. Most commercially made candles are made from paraffin wax.
Paraffin is a residual of the process of refining crude oil.
Paraffin has a lot to recommend it as a candle wax. The wax is widely available, relatively inexpensive, very stiff at room temperature, retains dyes and scents well and burns relatively cleanly.
Soy Candle Wax
Soy candle wax is a recent invention. Researchers developed it by hydrogenating (adding hydrogen molecules to) soybean oil. Hydrogenated soybean oil is fairly solid and burns well as a candle wax. The main difficulty is that most formulations are fairly soft and don’t always work well in applications such as making tapers.
On the positive side, it is a great wax to use for container candles. It holds scent and fragrance well. It is extremely clean burning – significantly more so than paraffin.
Beeswax
Beeswax is a great, albeit expensive, candle making wax. The wax comes from bee hives. Bees make the wax to form honeycombs to store honey. When a beekeeper empties the honeycomb, the wax can be used to make candles.
Beeswax has a long burn time and burns even more cleanly than paraffin. It is a firmer wax than soy candle wax so you can use it for tapers. Although it can hold fragrance, many people prefer not to add scent because they enjoy the mild, soft fragrance of the beeswax itself.
Unfortunately, beeswax is relatively expensive. It has always been so. In the past, only the wealthy could afford beeswax. It’s less costly these days, but still more expensive than most other candle waxes.
Where to Learn More
These waxes are the ones most candle makers use most of the time. You’d do just fine if these were the only ones you knew about.
However I suggest at least becoming aware of some of the other choices available. One place to start is the page: Candle Making Wax. You’ll discover some interesting waxes I haven’t mentioned here, as well as some more details about paraffin and soy wax.
Of course wax alone does not a candle make. You can learn what equipment and supplies you’ll need at: Candle Making Equipment
I want to recommend an excellent site for you to find out everything you need to know to start making candles every bit as beautiful as those you buy: The Candle Making Connection. I’ve learned the hard way that you can save a lot of time and frustration if you visit sites like that and get some insider tips and advice before you start experimenting on your own.
Making candles is a wonderful craft and I hope this information inspires you to give it a try yourself.
Quilting Supplies
You may be wondering what is a longarm quilting service? Well, it is a service that someone provides to you with a special machine that does the tough finishing of your special, maybe precious, quilt. If you have such a quilt that you have put many hours and much love into, then you want to make sure that the finishing is done right, perfectly and without defects.
Since you have discovered this site, I am so grateful that you are here. When I first started making my keepsake quilts for my family, I never quite seemed to get the edging on right. Or something else just wasn’t right. I had no idea that someone or rather “some machine” was out there and someone that knew how to use that machine could help me get the exact perfect finishes I was looking for. That’s when I began my searching and ended up writing this blog for you so you wouldn’t miss something that is stupendous.
If you would like to go here and find a longarm quilting service, I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised by all of the services they can provide to you, including connecting binding edges on a quilt. After using the services now for the quilts that I have designed, I can say that I am so thankful.
Somewhere in that timeframe, I looked into purchasing one. After doing my research on them, I decided that using a service is much more economical for me. They are quite expensive machines! Since people in the past relied on quilting bees to produce finished quilts, I needed to find some other method because buying that machine was not an option for me.
A while ago after I had finished a few of my quilts and didn’t know how to finish them, I discovered “long arm quilting services”. Birthdays, Anniversaries were coming up way too fast!Leave be, Christmastime. So I found four quilting services, called them, asked them questions and voila! So, solved that completely.
I hope you don’t spend as much time as I did trying to find the right quilting service. This is the reason I have made this blog, so you won’t waste your precious time.
One thing that I have just finished doing, which was a first for me, is I sent a design to my quilting service. The person is going to make a quilted topping from the art work that I had made on her long arm quilter. I sent the design, which is unique only to my family, and it will be ready for pick up before my husband’s birthday! I am so excited about it! My quilting service is going to do the whole thing, but I made the design! I never could have made a quilt like that doing it the old fashioned way. That’s not to say I have given up making homemade, hand quilting services of my own. No, never, I love it too much.
The best thing about finding my longarm quilting service is that now I have so many more options to add to my hobby. The next thing that I am going to quilt will be more long arm quilting stencils with some uniqueness.
