Are your walls looking simple and plain? Are a person who always desires about a posh living room? Did you ever think about the different decorative wall painting techniques, like sponging, ragging, stenciling or stamping? Even if you have no experience, you can brighten even the dullest room quickly and cheaply with one of the below mentioned simple decorative wall painting techniques.

Even before you could start painting, choose a color scheme for the walls. Most of the painting styles, use two shades on one color for any design. If the one you are choosing uses two shades as well, pick your base color darker than usual, as your top coat which is a lighter color will make your base coat light as well.

To sponge or rag a wall, paint the base color first and let it dry fully. Then, dip your sponge or rag into the lighter paint color and sponge or drag the lighter color over the base coat until you are satisfied with the effect. Repeat the same thing for the entire wall.

If you are considering using a decorative painting technique such as stenciling or stamping, you might just need to give a wall paper effect usingstamping or stenciling a simple design over your base coat. Also if you wish to go further with this and use stencils or stamps to create a faux brick or stone wall follow few simple steps. First, coat your walls with the color of your pick for the mortar between the bricks or stones. After it becomes dry, stamp or stencil your bricks or stones over the base coat. After the brick or stonework is dry, spatter a bit of the darker color over your faux art as it renders it depth and makes it look more real.Creating faux effects such as giving the look to your wall like they are made of plaster or suede can also really make your room stand out. Paint bases that automatically give a suede or textured effect to the walls are a shortcut that even artists use to create fun finishes.

Because of the current economic conditions, many families have decided not to modernize their house because don’t have the finances to accomplish this. If you’re in that same financial state, you can take solace from the fact that that you can make your home look like new with some key improvements and not having to spend an arm and a leg in the process.

Make a Dramatic Change and Spend Less

Start with the basics when mulling over a home rehab project. Assess from ceiling to floors first. This is the basis for your home rehab project. If you have bumpy and texturized, consider either repainting it a new, fresh color or hiring someone to scrape it and re-plaster it with a flat pattern. Don’t forget to apply a thick primer before your paint coat! Next, look at the walls and choose a neutral shade that will go with a brighter and more natural mood and will go with any décor. Make repairs to walls that have dents, nicks, or holes so they look like new again. Next, continue with the floor areas: are the floors and baseboards in good condition? If yes, re-paint the baseboards a nice white color to give the home a new and updated look. If you plan to remove and replace the floors, consider porcelain tiles, because they are affordable per square foot and stay looking new much longer than carpet does. If you will be installing carpeting, choose a thick pile that is somewhere between brown and beige so that stains will not be as visible and the carpet will resist crushing for years to come.

Save Money and Do It Yourself

Renovating your bathrooms and kitchen are the wisest fixes you can put into your house. If the cabinetry is structurally sound, consider either refinishing the existing cabinets or buying new doors. If you will be refacing them, get a good hammer drill and remove the hardware from the cabinet doors to free them. If needed, new doors can be purchased from your local hardware store. To save even more, use the cabinets you have and refinish them. Again, detach the doors from the cabinets and then sponge or rub on a paint removing chemical to the existing finish and use a scraper made from hard plastic just for this purpose. Once everything has been removed, sand the cabinets the first time with a Bosch sander using medium-grade sandpaper. A final sanding should be performed last with a fine-grade sandpaper after that. Remove all of the wood dust and then apply a wood conditioner to the cabinets. Finally, stain or paint the wood and top it off with two or three clear coats to protect the finished product from exposure to moisture.

How to Make an Impact Through Design

Improving your decorative items is an easy and effective way to make your home looking sharp. There are great deals at yard sales, discount design stores, and online which will save money. For even better savings, make furniture pieces by hand. You can make a unique headboard, for example, with nothing more than two oversized wooden spindles, a lathe (you can lease this from someone), and a large rectangle of wood. Cover the wood in the center area with some batting, fabric, and unique upholstery nails for a new headboard that is truly stunning!

Perhaps you’re fixing up a new home or wanting to re-do the one you live in. Either way, these helpful hints for getting the place you live to look its best will help your living quarters look like it’s a new place without spending a ton of dough in the process.
